Joe Hynes

Joe Hynes was born in Co. Armagh and educated in Armagh City. From an early age he showed a talent for sketching and painting. For many years he painted the flora and fauna of his native land as few have done, but it is his loose and impressionistic watercolours that have earned him widespread recognition.

He is mainly a self-taught artist who has been greatly inspired by the work of English artists, Edward Wesson and John Yardley and his current style owes much to these contemporary exponents of the watercolour medium. In the early years of his learning he has happy memories of taking lessons from Maurice C. Wilks on the banks of the river Lagan.

His paintings are held in many private collections worldwide as well as many corporate collections such as The Armagh City & District Council, Craigavon Borough Council, Short Brothers Aircraft Manufacturer, The Mooney Hotel Group, Price Waterhouse Cooper, Killultagh Properties and The Rosapenna Hotel.

Joe Hynes is also featured in The Armagh County Museum and the MAGNI Catalogue (Museums Galleries Northern Ireland).
