Debbie grew up by the sea in picturesque Duncannon,
Co. Wexford. She began painting at an early age, accompanying her mother to oil painting classes at fifteen. At sixteen she won the Wexford Proloco Art Competition, part of the prize being a solo art exhibition at the Wexford Art Centre. Following this, Debbie and her fellow artist and Mum, Ruby Chapman, held very successful combined exhibitions in Wexford’s County Hotel for three consecutive years before moving to the Talbot Hotel for a further six.

Debbie attended Waterford RTC to pursue a career in art. Although her primary interest was in fine art and painting, the need to earn a living led to a ten-year stint in commercial art in London.

Still continuing to paint in her spare time, her paintings were hung in Covent Garden Galleries and with the Camden Art Centre, sending some of her work home every now and then to be exhibited on the local scene. Her sense of colour and design, her flair for the telling image, led to her appointment as graphic design consultant in London’s Jevons Brown.

Despite her success, Debbie decided to give up commercial art and go back to her first love, painting. She moved back to Ireland where she met and married her Tasmanian husband. They spent some time in Australia enabling her to focus on her painting again for the first time in years.

Now back living in Dublin, Debbie is a full time artist and loving it. Her paintings are enjoyed in private collections all over the world.
